What is the NEET passing mark?
The passing or qualifying mark (usually the 50th percentile for UR and 40th for reserved categories) varies yearly. For 2024, it was 162 out of 720 for General category, and 127 for OBC/SC/ST.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET (UG) is an all-India pre-medical entrance test for students who wish to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc.) courses in government and private institutions in India, and also for those intending to pursue primary medical qualification abroad. It is the largest single-window medical entrance exam in the country. The exam assesses a student's proficiency in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Given the intense competition for limited government medical seats, scoring highly in NEET UG is critical for aspiring doctors in India.

For Biology and Chemistry, NCERT is considered the 'Bible' and is sufficient for scoring very high marks, as almost 90-95% of questions are directly from or based on it. For Physics, standard reference books and extensive numerical practice are required alongside NCERT.
There is no restriction on the number of attempts for the NEET UG exam. Any candidate who has completed 17 years of age can appear as many times as they wish.
The exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (of which 180 must be answered) covering Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. Each subject has two sections (Section A with 35 questions, Section B with 15 questions out of which 10 must be attempted).
No. Qualifying only makes you eligible for counseling. To secure a government MBBS seat, a much higher score (typically 600-650+ depending on the state and category) is required.
